National Archives: Genealogists/Family Historians "The National Archives offers insight into the lives of people, their families and our history. Because the records at the National Archives come from every branch of the Federal government, almost all Americans can find themselves, their ancestors, or their community in the archives. Knowing how a person interacted with the government is key to a successful search."

The USGenWeb Project "The USGenWeb Project consists of a group of volunteers working together to provide Internet websites for genealogical research in every county and every state of the United States. The Project is non-commercial and fully committed to free access for everyone."

Just recently I have started on the research of the Lester's family. My grandmother was born Josephine Lester. Her parents were Joseph & Carrie Williams Lester. My grandmother is losing her memory slowly, so I thought it was time to research them. I was able to locate Joseph's family. Joseph parents were William & Fannie (Fanny). His siblings were: Charlie, James, William Henry, John Gary, Algie, Idilia(Idonia), Hester, Persiphone, Jasmine. William's second wife was Queen Victoria. Just… Continue

The Shorters'

This is the first surname that I researched and I am still researching. Richard Shorter was born in Maryland around 1850. On December 26, 1872 Richard married Laura Ellen Young. According to one census report Laura had 12 children, but only 9 survived. On the 1880's census they were living in Washington DC and it listed 4 of Richard's siblings. Their names were Charles, George, Maria and William. In the 1890 Washington DC City Directory it shows that Charles was still living in the house on… Continue
